Fifth Gay Invitational Fellowship Gay Games deadline approaches Tournament strikes June 8-10
by K.D. Mahnal
Cleveland's fifth annual Gay Invitational Fellowship Tournament (G.I.F.T.) is rolling into high gear. The bowling tournament will be held at Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted, June 8-10.
Sanctioned by the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO), the tournament will feature single, double and team competition. Teams will consist of five members and partial teams can be filled by the G.I.F.T. committee.
"I'm looking forward to a great time and showing out-of-town bowlers Cleveland," states G.I.F.T. Director Ed P. Last year's tournament drew more than local keglers. Entrants from Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Canton, Houston, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale and Toronto also participated. We anticipate "at least 160 bowlers," states Ed P.
Entrants may compete only once in each event; men and women compete on an equal basis. The tournament will be governed by American Bowling Congress (ABC) and Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC) rules, unless otherwise specified in the registration form. Entrants must have a verified copy of a local association's (ABC, WIBC or IGBO) average sheet from prior year and the sheet dated nearest to April 1, 1990.
Cost of the tournament will be $70 and will be disbursed as follows: prize money

$25, banquet $28, IGBO donation $1.00, tournament expenses $7.00 and bowling fees $9.00. The banquet will be held on June 10 at the Cleveland Airport Marriott and will feature some surprise entertainment. Attire will be black and white, formal or informal.
The tournament will be conducted on an 80 percent handicap basis. Keglers will receive 80 percent of the difference between their tenpin average and 200. A separate "Tops 'N Bottoms" scratch (no handicap) category will also be offered. Bowlers with over a 150 average will compete in the "Top" division, while bowlers with an average under 150 will compete in the "Bottom" division. The top three bowlers in each division will receive additional prize money, based on actual totals from tournament games. This is an optional event and will cost $20 for entry.
In addition to the tournament the
G.I.F.T. committee has planned a private 21/2 hour cruise aboard the Goodtime II on Saturday night. For G.I.F.T. entrants the cost is $5.00; for nonbowlers it is $12 in advance, $15 the night of the cruise. A cash bar and snack bar
will be available on the Goodtime II. Also available during the tournament will be a separate raffle in which thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded.
Deadline for entry is May 25. For more information contact Ed P. at 2262987 or IGBO representative Bill Harrison at 228-2296. See you there!

The Celebration '90: Gay Games III and Cultural Festival entry deadline is fast approaching, May 31, 1990. Vancouver, British Columbia will host the Gay Games, August 4-11, 1990.
Featuring 27 sporting events (one exhibition) and many cultural events, the Gay Games will be an eight day celebration not soon forgotten. Opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Vancouver's B.C. Place Stadium, a covered dome seating thousands.
Included in the Cultural Festival will be an international film festival, dance and theater performances, cabarets and drag shows, art and photography exhibitions, folk festival, craft fair, and performances from major name entertainers. An international chorus comprised of individuals from around the world, organized by Carol White, former director of the Denver Women's Chorus, will hold several performances during Celebration '90. "I hope the music will transcend all barriers that existed within the community and will serve as a living, tangible, musical symbol of one world," comments White.
Jeffry Pike, a dancer from Boston, is organizing an evolving "Dance tour across America" to Celebration '90, based on the theme of "meeting." The tour will start with a short seed dance in Boston that grows and develops as it is performed city to city, crossing the continent to Vancouver. Core dancers from each city will join the group, expanding in numbers to become a dance troupe that represents the lesbian and gay community of North America.
A group from Calgary is preparing a theater production with the working title of "Benches and Bleachers." The production is a series of fictional vignettes involving athletes who compete at Gay Games III.
Registration fees are $54 per competitor, per event and blank rosters are not permitted in doubles or team events. Team registrations must be submitted with fees for each member and Personal Data Registration Form. Roster changes will be accepted until July 15 and must be accompanied by a $10 fee per form

Another season is now underway for the Ladies' Touch Football League. This is the fifth spring session for the league. The league plays under adapted Canadian Women's Touch Football League rules, which allow less contact and more emphasis on speed, skill and strategy. This year's season will be eight weeks in length, from March 18 to May 13. Playoffs, if necessary, will be held on May 25. Playoffs are held only if the league leader is not ahead by at least two games.
